Starting with Windows 24 Getting Started Guide The “After Resize” value is determined by the selection you make in the Linux partition size field. The options in this field are: 300 MB: This is the smallest Linux partition that you can create with Par- titionMagic. A 300 MB partition, however, only provides enough space to install the minimal installation of OpenLinux. 800 MB: This is a reasonable partition size for installing the recom- mended OpenLinux system packages. This amount of space would let you install all recommended workstation and server packages. 1640 MB: This partition size provides plenty of free space to install all OpenLinux packages, as well as other Linux applications, such as Word- Perfect for Linux, StarOffice for Linux, or an SQL database system. Maximum Free Space: This option creates a Linux partition that uses all of the free space on your Windows partition except for 100 MB. Use this option if you want to have Linux as the main operating system on this computer and you don’t expect to install many additional applications or much data in Windows. To create an OpenLinux partition from the selected Windows partition: 1. If necessary, choose a different disk partition by choosing Select Par- tition and using the dialog box that appears. 2. Choose a Linux partition size. 3. Choose OK. The Linux partition is created and a Partition Creation Complete message appears. 4. If you are ready to continue with OpenLinux installation, insert your “OpenLinux Kernel and Installation” CD-ROM and choose OK. Starting the OpenLinux Installation By creating a Linux partition with PartitionMagic, you have a place to install OpenLinux and can begin the installation process. When you restart your computer from the PartitionMagic program, the installa- tion begins after following these steps: 1. Insert the “OpenLinux Kernel and Installation” CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
